Quality control

CMI members are committed to the manufacture of high quality cements.

CMI members are committed to the manufacture of high quality cements. All of our member’s cement manufacturing facilities in Ireland are accredited to Quality Management System ISO 9001 and quality certification is provided for all cement products.

The consistency and performance of the cement is vital for our customers so round the clock testing is a feature of the cement manufacturing process.

The final cements are tested and independently verified by NSAI to ensure compliance with European Cement Standard (EN 197).

Quality Control process includes:
• Careful analysis of the chemical composition of the raw materials and fuels
• Fine grinding and mixing to produce a homogenous mixture known as ‘raw meal’
• High temperature (>1450°c) to ‘melt’ the raw materials and formation of new ‘clinker’ compounds
• Quality Control testing of the clinker
• Milling of the clinker with gypsum and grinding aids
• Inclusion of secondary cementitious material in the production of CEM II cements
• Continuous sampling and testing in the robotic 'Auto-lab'
• Physical and chemical testing of the cement in on-site laboratories
• Independent testing of the cement product by Regulatory Authorities
